НАЦИОНАЛНА ПЛАТФОРМА ЗА ЖЕНСКО ПРЕТПРИЕМНИШТВО

May 2021

In order to create real policies that will contribute to the promotion of women entrepreneurship in the country, it is necessary to unite all the main stakeholders, which will be achieved through the creation of the National Platform for Women Entrepreneurship, which was promoted today at a conference attended by ministers, senior representatives of the EU Delegation, diplomats and representatives of the business community.

The platform is part of the project of the same name, co-financed by the European Union, as part of the IPA Civil Society and Media Program. Holders of the platform are the Association of Business Women, Macedonian Chambers of Commerce of Macedonia, the National Federation of Farmers and the Foundation for Management and Industrial Research-MIR.

In general, the situation of women entrepreneurs is on glass legs because in conditions of health and economic crisis the economy has fallen a lot, said Valentina Disoska, president of the National Platform for Women Entrepreneurship and the Association of Business Women.

She said that women have a problem in establishing, running and daily activities in their businesses due to, as shesaid, the greater burden they have in the family.

Over 17,000 women lost their jobs due to the crisis caused by Covid-19. The interest in starting their own business run by women has decreased because women’s entrepreneurship is most often associated with activities that were closed due to the pandemic, say the Association of Business Women in Macedonia. Informal figures show that about 30 percent of businesses are run by women, but there is no official statistic on the exact number.

The National Platform for Women Entrepreneurship, added, should be built as a key social partner for policy-making and reform processes, and enable the promotion of women entrepreneurs as drivers of change. Strengthening women’s entrepreneurship, he said, will contribute to the economic strengthening of the state and society.

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Fatmir Bytyqi said that the policies and measures taken by the Government are aimed at creating cohesion.
